IELTS Speaking chủ đề Music Part 1, 2, 3: Từ vựng & bài mẫu

Music - Âm nhạc là một chủ đề tưởng chừng dễ nhưng lại khá thử thách với các thí sinh. Dù đây là một chủ đề khá quen thuộc, nhưng những từ vựng liên quan lại có phần chuyên sâu và hiếm khi được sử dụng trong bối cảnh hàng ngày. I have a diverse taste in music. I appreciate classical, jazz, and pop music. But for me, music is not just about the melody or lyrics; it's about the emotional connection that it creates. That's why I tend to gravitate most heavily toward music that has a strong and meaningful message, such as protest songs or ballads that express love and loss.

If I had the opportunity to learn a musical instrument, I would love to learn how to play the piano. I find it a very versatile and beautiful instrument that can evoke a range of emotions and moods. I think that playing the piano would also help me develop my creativity and self-expression, as it requires both technical proficiency and artistic interpretation.

Câu hỏi: Has the music that you listen to changed since you were young?

Yes, definitely. As I grew older, my taste in music evolved, and I started to appreciate different genres and styles. I think it's natural for our music preferences to change over time as we gain new experiences and develop our personalities. For example, when I was a teenager, I was more drawn to angst-ridden rock music that reflected my feelings of rebellion and disillusionment. Now, I appreciate music that is more uplifting and positive, as I try to focus on the beauty and joy in life.

Ở Part 2, giám khảo sẽ đưa cho bạn cue cards gồm 3-4 câu hỏi kèm những hướng dẫn trả lời. Khi nhận được câu hỏi, bạn sẽ có 1 phút để chuẩn bị và hệ thống những ý mình sẽ trả lời, và 2 phút trình bày đến khi được giám khảo yêu cầu dừng lại. Câu hỏi: Describe a song that you like.

Well, there are many tracks that I put on repeat. However, if I had to choose one, it would be Born this way by Lady Gaga. It’s a pop song from her 2nd album with the same name. The song quickly reached number 1 on Billboard Hot 100 Chart and received positive feedback from both the public and critics.

It is a pure pop song, but the fact that Gaga is the actual composer makes it more exciting. In an interview, she said that she wrote the song in only 2 minutes. I remember when I heard this song for the first time, I was at home after school. It was about 11 years ago. I was watching the Grammy awards, and then the presenter introduced her performance. I have to confess that I was completely hooked on the song after the first 15 seconds.

There are a variety of reasons why this song is always on my playlist. Firstly, the rhythm of the song is very catchy. Its upbeat melody immediately lifted my spirits and made me dance along with the beat. Secondly, I was impressed by her creative performance. The choreography, light effects, and her stunning outfits contributed to making her stage near perfection. She was able to dance the entire time, but still held her breath to produce perfect vocals.  Last but not least, the lyrics of the song totally touched my heart. I was amazed by how powerful words were. She encouraged people to believe and love themselves. Her message was clear that even though we have different backgrounds, we all should be respected and treated fairly regardless of age, sex, or race. 

I think this song will never get old, and it’s always a part of contemporary pop culture.

Since I am a music aficionado, I listen to different kinds of music genres and one of the songs that would be played in my all-time favorites is ‘’Haru Haru’’ from Big Bang. 

I remember hearing this song for the first time way back in High school. When ‘’Haru Haru’’ was released in 2008, the song not only solidified the quintet as leaders of South Korean K-pop industry, but also launched their route to worldwide superstardom and helped shape K-pop as we know it today.

 ‘’Haru Haru’’ which translates to ‘’Day by Day’’ in English.

 It combines hip-hop influences with nostalgic piano-based pop ballads. Moreover, thanks to its evocative nature, with love regrets communicated through forceful raps and frantically delivered lyrics, “Haru Haru” became one of South Korea’s top songs of 2008.

It is a song of sorrow and heartbreak that became sort of an anthem for lovers of the band. I am partial to this song due to the meaning exhibited through the song lyrics. The lyrics express agony and heartbreak that everyone in the world can relate to, regardless of language of culture. I’ve long wondered under what circumstances which prompted G-Dragon-leader of Big Bang to write this song, was it his personal story?

All in all, to me ‘’Haru Haru’’ is one of the songs that showed the world that K-pop is more than just a sound and it will always be a song that keeps me hooked.

Câu hỏi: What kind of music is popular in your country now and what kind will be in the future? 

In Vietnam, the most prevalent genre would have to be pop, I mean it’s called ‘pop’ for a reason. Pop songs are usually popular because of their upbeat melody and catchy lyrics, to which people can easily sing along. Besides, Vietnamese rap music has recently taken the whole country by storm due to the production of two seasons of a tv show called Rap Viet. This is the first time that rap music and artists have made their way on national television, challenging prejudices against them and gaining popularity among the public.

Câu hỏi: What do old people like to listen to?

From my own view, I think they prefer to listen to old folk songs which contain meaningful lyrics. I think they expect each song to have a full story, which explains why catchy melodies of nowadays songs are not their cup of tea. Besides, the elderly love to hear songs that describe the beauty of a region such as rivers, local food, or villages since they find it familiar to where they come from. Moreover, people who have a great sense of patriotism enjoy historic songs.

I think the environment is the major source of people’s inspiration in music. For example, if a person grows up in a traditional family, they may be keen on folk songs. Besides, youngsters are subjected to the people surrounding them. They may turn to love a song simply because people around them listen to that song. The fear of being left behind makes them constantly update to new trendy songs. Moreover, young people love a genre of music just because they find it suitable for their experiences and feelings.
