Well I have to confess that it is not a piece of cake for me to navigate my way, especially in unknown places, combined with my absent-mindedness. Actually, I have lost count of the times I got lost. As I vividly remember, when I was young, I used to walk to my school, which was just within a walking distance from my house. But sadly I used to lose my way and couldn’t remember the direction.

An easy solution is to use navigation apps on my phone such as Google Maps. However, I absolutely advise against using it while riding a scooter as a lot of people do in Vietnam because it could lead to dire consequences. Another approach could be to pull over and ask people around the area for directions.

Explain what you did to try to find your way:

When talking about this topic, a few years ago, during my trip to Hong Kong, I encountered a memorable occasion when I got lost in the bustling streets of the city. It happened in the vibrant district of Mong Kok, known for its labyrinthine alleys and bustling markets.

As I wandered through the vibrant streets, trying to explore the local culture and sights, I lost my way. The unfamiliar surroundings and the maze-like streets left me feeling disoriented and anxious.

As I attempted to seek help from passersby, the language barrier became a significant challenge. The inability to effectively communicate compounded my feelings of frustration and helplessness. It was disheartening to be in a foreign city, surrounded by people, yet feeling completely disconnected.

However, luck was on my side when a friendly local student noticed my plight. He approached me and offered to help. With a warm smile and amazingly fluent English, he patiently guided me through the busy streets, pointing out landmarks and providing clear directions. I felt a wave of relief and gratitude knowing that I would soon find my way back to the hotel.

Yes, it is. Although printed maps are somehow underestimated, they are still essential in the modern world. These printed versions can be used without Internet connection, so they are applicable to different geographical features, especially remotes and mountainous areas. More importantly, paper maps are more cost-effective and don’t require any additional fees or subscriptions.
