3. Sample Answer – IELTS Speaking Part 2

I’d like to talk about one of Vietnam’s most well-known legends, The Returned Sword, or “Sự Tích Hồ Gươm.” This story has been passed down through generations and is deeply connected to Vietnamese culture.

The story is set in the 15th century when Vietnam was under the rule of the Ming Dynasty. According to the legend, a king named Lê Lợi received a magical sword from the Dragon King. With this powerful weapon, he led a resistance and successfully drove out the invaders.

What makes the story particularly fascinating is what happened afterward. While sailing on a lake, a golden turtle emerged and took back the sword. The king realized that its mission had been fulfilled, so he returned it. Since then, the lake has been called Hoan Kiem Lake.

I first heard this story from my grandmother when I was a child, and I was completely captivated by it.

What I find most interesting is that the story is not only entertaining but also meaningful. It symbolizes responsibility and reminds people that power should only be used for the right purpose.
