2. Little vs A Little
These are quantifiers for uncountable nouns:
Little = very small amount—often negative feeling.
I have little cash—not enough to buy a bus ticket.
A little = small amount, but enough for a purpose—positive nuance.
My grandfather has a little cash—enough to buy a train ticket.
Tip: Adding only (e.g. only a little) emphasizes the small amount, often in a negative context.
3. Usage Notes for Few / A Few
Few / A few should not follow forms of to be (is/am/are, etc.).
Correct: His store had a few apples.
Incorrect: The apples in his store is a few.
Common modifiers:
Quite a few = a significant number We’ve got quite a few friends in the class.
