What is the deadline for booking an IELTS test?

You can register for IELTS at any of the published test dates, but please note that registration closes:
72 hours before IELTS on computer test
24 hours before IELTS on paper test for Istanbul and Ankara
For the IELTS on paper test in other cities, you should register 6 days before the test.
Also, remember that IELTS is a highly demanded test, and the number of available seats can vary depending on the venue, and places fill up quickly!

Do I have to take any courses before I sit for the IELTS ?

Do I need computer skills to take the IELTS on Computer test?

You do not need any special computer skills. Please note that a English QWERTY keyboard is used for the IELTS on Computer test. If you are not used to this type of keyboard, it may help to practice with one before you take the test. Don’t worry if you can’t type fast enough, the IELTS on computer is designed for people with normal typing skills.

How old do I need to be to take IELTS?

There is no age limit for taking IELTS, but IELTS is not recommended for anyone under the age of 16. However, all candidates under the age of 18 who want to take the test must fill out the Minor Consent Form and send it to the test center at least one day before the test day.

What documents I need for booking a test?

You must have a valid passport or Turkish ID card to be eligible to sit an IELTS test. Please note that only a valid Turkish ID (no old photo) or passport (not expired) can be accepted. If your ID card or passport is in another institution for procedures such as renewal or visa, you can take the test by presenting a temporary ID card or a document stating that your passport is in the consulate. In addition, documents such as driver’s licenses, transportation cards, student IDs are not accepted. On the test day, you must bring the ID/passport that you have registered with.

The IELTS test is offered in two formats – IELTS Academic and General Training.

The Academic format is designed for those who want to study or train in a university that teaches in English at the undergraduate or postgraduate level or institutions of higher and further education. Many professions (e.g. medical, nursing, accounting, engineering, aviation) also require an Academic test result for professional registration purposes.

The General Training format is for those who are going to English-speaking countries to do secondary education, work experience, or training programs. This version of the test may be a visa requirement if you are planning to migrate to English speaking countries. IELTS is accepted globally by more than 11,500 organizations including universities, professional bodies, employers, and Australian student visa and migration applications. The IELTS General Training test is the only non-academic test of English accepted for migration to overseas.

I am a native English speaker, do I still need to take an IELTS test?

Whether you need an IELTS test or not depends on your reason to sit the test. If you want to apply for higher education / career / education, universities / schools / employers can ask you for an IELTS score. As part of the immigration process, you may also need to submit an IELTS score on your visa applications. So even if your native language is English, you may need to take IELTS.

IELTS is an international test, and every version of the test is the same level of difficulty, no matter where in the world you take the test. We suggest you take the test wherever you feel most at ease and select a test centre that suits you. Does having an accent affect my test result?

IELTS is an international test and will accept your accent no matter where you are from. When you sit your Speaking test, remember that your pronunciation is important – but your accented pronunciation does not affect your score. A variety of accents will also be heard during the Listening test.

UK visa applicants must ensure that they register for an ‘IELTS for UKVI’ test date at one of the UKVI locations.

The IELTS UKVI test is designed to meet certain administrative requirements that are specific to UK Visas and Immigration. There is no differences in the test format or questions. IELTS and IELTS UKVI test has same content, examiners, format, level of difficulty, marking, and so on.

Test Report Forms, however, will be slightly different to show that test takers have taken the IELTS UKVI.
