Test transfer and cancellation requests are different for IELTS and IELTS UKVI tests.

IELTS Cancellation and Transfer Requests

IELTS test transfer requests must be carried out at least five weeks before the test date via email or in person. The exam transfer or refund requests can be done once-only, and the five-week rule is calculated over the period between the day you request a transfer and your registered test date.

For Transfer or cancellation requests made at least five weeks before your test, you will need to send an email to ielts.istanbul@idp.com  or ielts.ankara@idp.com . No other documents are required. Requesting a full refund or transferring your test to a later date can be done once only and your test can be postponed for a maximum of 3 months.

If unforeseen circumstances prevent you from taking your test, you are eligible for a refund if you can provide evidence within 5 days of your test that your ability to sit the test will be or has been affected by serious illness or cause, such as:

• Serious illness, hospital admission or serious injury

• Death of a close family member

• Hardship or trauma (such as being a victim of a crime or victim of a traffic accident)

• Military service

 Candidates who request a cancellation or transfer less than five weeks before the IELTS test, or those who do not show up for the test they have registered for, must submit the appropriate documentation as evidence such as a medical report, death notice or police report. This documentation must be submitted to ielts.istanbul@idp.com  or ielts.ankara@idp.com  within 5 days from the test date. Due to the registration process, your test fee will be refunded with a 25% deduction, or your test date will be postponed to a future date that you specify without any additional fee. The IELTS test transfer or refund requests are limited to one occasion only. You can transfer your test for a maximum of 1 month period. Documents submitted outside the specified period cannot be accepted and transfers or returns cannot be made. Candidates who request a transfer less than five weeks before the IELTS test without submitting any compelling reason can transfer their test for a maximum of 3 months by paying an additional 500 TL. Test transfer requests are limited to one occasion only. For application processing, the request must be sent to ielts.istanbul@idp.com  or ielts.ankara@idp.com  within 5 days from the test date at the latest. 

IELTS UKVI Cancellation and Postponement Request

IELTS UKVI test transfer requests must be submitted no later than 14 days before the test date. Within 14 days of your test, it cannot be transferred. You can transfer your test up to a maximum period of 3 months. Test transfer requests are limited to one occasion only. To request a transfer, simply send your request to ielts.istanbul@idp.com  or ielts.ankara@idp.com .

If you fail to attend the test without providing any documented excuse, the test will be cancelled and you will not be eligible for a transfer or refund. You are only eligible for a refund if you provide evidence within 14 days of your test that your ability to sit the test will be or has been affected by serious illness or cause, such as:

IELTS UKVI refund policies vary depending on the cancellation date of your registration. This is calculated from the date you emailed or contacted the test centre in person to request a transfer or cancellation.

However, in accordance with IELTS policy, you can get a full refund or transfer your test date to any preferred date within 3 months if you submit your documentation within 5 days from your test date. Documents submitted outside the specified period cannot be accepted and transfers or refunds will not be issued in such cases. 

How long does a refund take?

Refunds are made via bank transfer and will take a maximum of three to four weeks from the transaction date.
