Which test do I take?

The IELTS Academic test is suitable for those wanting to study in an English-speaking environment or university (higher education). You can also take IELTS Academic for professional registration purposes. The test measures if you are ready to begin studying in English. It features vocabulary that is familiar within an academic setting.

The IELTS General Training test is suitable for those applying to study below degree level. This includes an English-speaking school or college. It can also be taken for work experience or other employment training. IELTS General Training is also required for migration to Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and the UK. The test features everyday English language skills that you will need in social and workplace environments.

*However, if your destination is UK, you might need to take an IELTS for UKVI (UKVI Academi or UKVI General Training or UKVI Life Skills).

How different between IELTS on paper and IELTS on computer?

The only difference between IELTS on paper and IELTS on computer test is your test day experience. The test format, question types, time allocated to each test part and content is the same for both IELTS on computer and IELTS on paper test.

If you choose to complete your IELTS test on a computer, you will do the Reading, Listening, and Writing parts of the test using a computer. All answers will be typed on the screen.

In both IELTS on paper and IELTS on computer, the Speaking test is completed in a face-to-face interview with an IELTS examiner.

Test Format

Both Academic and General Training consist of four sections: listening (30 minutes), reading (60 minutes), writing (60 minutes) and speaking (11-14 minutes).

However, IELTS UKVI for Life Skills will test only listening and speaking skills. The exam will be a conversation between two test takers and the session is conducted by an IELTS Examiner (16-22 minutes).

When do I know the speaking time?

For paper-based IELTS, the speaking time will be informed on the test date on the announcement board and in the candidate card that you will receive in the test room. The speaking time will start in the afternoon.

For the computerized IELTS, the speaking time can be chosen when you make an exam booking.

When will I receive a reminder email?

You will receive a reminder email 2-3 days before your test date to confirm your test date, test schedule, and test venue.

The test venue cannot be changed. However, you can submit a request to cancel your test and make a new booking.

What will happen if I am late or absent?

Accepted Answer

You will not be permitted to sit the examination if you arrive late. Refund of the test fee will NOT be made in this case or to any absent candidates. However, In case of an absence related to exceptions, the candidate must present a valid evidence within 5 days after the test date. Please read more details about the exception policy of IELTS.

Can I cancel or transfer the exam?

IELTS exam cancellation or postponement can be requested based on the terms and conditions of IELTS policy. As the conditions between IELTS Regular and IELTS UKVI is different, please read more in details and submit your request online.

How to Complain about the IELTS test?

Accepted Answer

If your IELTS experience on the test date does not turn out the way you expected, the first step is to speak with IELTS invigilators at the test centre immediately after you finish the test. The test centre accepts your complaint related to the test on your test date only, and any complaint you make after this would not be considered.

· Submit a written Complaint Form to the Test Day Supervisor with details.
· IELTS Test Administrator will investigate and resolve the issue to the satisfaction of IDP

In general, the result is valid for 2 years. However, each organisation or institution have vary condition accepting IELTS. Please check with your organisation that you want to apply.

If someone else will be collecting your TRF for you, a signed copy of your proof of identity and a signed letter of authority (in English) must be given to our staff at the Registration Desk.The authorized person is also need to present their ORIGINAL Thai national ID card/passport to our staff. Again, photo copy or other types of identity (eg. driving license or government officer identification card) are NOT accepted

How to get an additional Test Report Form (TRF)?

Candidates can request for copies of your results (TRF) to be sent to any recognising organisations. All additional TRFs will be sent from IDP Thailand directly to your institution. What can I do if I am not happy with my test results?

You can apply for a review of your band scores (called an Enquiry on Results) at your test centre within six weeks of the test date.

You must pay an enquiry fee 4,100 THB, which is fully refunded if your band score changes. If your band score changes, you will be issued a new Test Report Form (TRF).
