Still wondering which IELTS test type suits your goals and aspirations best?
Read more on whether you should take IELTS Academic or General Training for immigration and how to apply for UK visas with IELTS before registering for the IELTS in Thailand.
Times have changed and IELTS is no longer available in just paper formats.
You may now book the IELTS on Computer or IELTS on Paper, for both the IELTS General Training and IELTS Academic tests (including for UKVI).
The format, question types, and allocated time will be identical for both mediums. The only difference will be whether you complete your test on paper or using the computer provided at the test centre.
For IELTS on Paper, the Reading, Listening, and Writing sections will be completed on paper on the same day with no breaks in between. The final Speaking section will be conducted face-to-face with the examiner within one week before or after your test date.
For IELTS on Computer, the Reading, Listening, and Writing sections will similarly be completed on the computer on the same day with no breaks in between. The Speaking section will also still be conducted face-to-face with an examiner on your test day before or after the other three sections. There is no option for a virtual oral exam for the Speaking section.
Before you turn up for your IELTS test, you’ll need to book two key requirements first:
Have a clear copy of a valid form of identification (e.g. government-issued ID or passport): you will need to upload a clear copy of your valid ID when completing registration, as well as bring it along with you to the testing centre on your test day.
Be at least 18 years of age: if you are under 18 years of age, a parent or guardian will need to supply written consent to permit you to register for the IELTS. Download a consent form here
If you are unsure about the validity of your identification document, reach out to your nearest IELTS test centre in Thailand for more information.
You can register for the IELTS directly on IDP’s website. Simply click “Book now” and choose your test type (e.g. IELTS Academic or IELTS General Training) and test format (IELTS on Computer or IELTS on Paper).
Choose your intended IELTS test centre from the list of cities and test centres in the booking form. All IELTS on Computer and IELTS on Paper tests must be taken at the test centre.
Choose your intended IELTS test date and time from the options provided.
Complete the rest of the IELTS application form with your personal details. You will need to upload a clear copy of your verified ID in this section.
Finish your IELTS test booking by paying the application fee. IDP accepts Visa or MasterCard debit and credit cards as payment methods in Thailand. Your card will need to be valid and activated to complete the payment.
You will receive an email or phone message confirming your IELTS test booking once all steps are completed and payment has been processed. This confirmation message will include the location and time of your IELTS test and your IELTS reference number.
If you have selected IELTS on Paper, your Speaking test will be held within seven (7) days before or after your test date. A confirmation of the Speaking test date will be sent at the latest three (3) days before your written test date.
If you need to cancel or postpone your IELTS test, you can contact the test centre where you booked your test.
If you cancel or postpone your test more than 5 weeks before the test date, you will receive a refund minus an administration fee. If you cancel or postpone your test within 5 weeks of your test date, you will be charged the full fee unless you have a serious medical reason for needing to cancel or postpone it.
