The IELTS test adopts a nine-band scoring system to evaluate candidates' proficiency in English. Each band score corresponds to a distinct level of proficiency, ranging from 1 (Non-User) to 9 (Expert User). Candidates will receive individual band scores for Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking, aiding in self-assessment and improvement.
For test-takers in Thailand, here is some information on checking your IELTS results.
For both computer-based and paper-based tests, accessing your IELTS results is a straightforward process. Test-takers will receive an email notification prompting them to log in to the official IELTS website or the test centre's online portal to view their IELTS results securely.
Visit the official IELTS website and log in to your candidate account using your credentials.
You will receive an email notification once your IELTS results are available for viewing. Follow the link provided in the email or log in to your candidate account on the IELTS website to access your results.
Your results will include your overall band score, as well as individual scores for each section of the test (Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking).
You have the option to download and print a copy of your Test Report Form (TRF) for your records or to share with relevant institutions or organisations.
Keep in mind that your IELTS scores are valid for a period of two years from the test date, so be sure to utilise them within this timeframe for any academic or professional purposes.
If you're considering requesting a remark, also known as an Enquiry on Results (EOR), here's a brief guide on the procedure:
Contact the Test Center: Reach out to the test centre where you took the IELTS exam and express your interest in requesting a remark. They will provide you with the necessary information and forms to initiate the process.
Submit the Required Form: Fill out the required form provided by the test centre, ensuring that all details are accurately recorded. Include specific details regarding the section(s) you wish to be re-evaluated. Return the completed form to the test centre along with the applicable fee for the remark request. Be sure to adhere to any deadlines or procedures outlined by the test centre.
Once your request has been submitted, the IELTS test centre will process your application and provide confirmation of receipt. They will then proceed with the remarking process, which may take some time to complete. After the remarking process is finalised, you will receive the revised scores for the section(s) in question. These results will supersede the original scores, if any changes are made.
Refund policy for score changes from a remark may vary depending on the policies of the test centre or examining board. If the IELTS remark results in a change to your scores, any applicable fees paid for the remark request may be refunded to you. However, if there are no changes to your scores as a result of the remark, the fee may not be refunded. Be sure to inquire about the specific refund policy applicable to your situation when submitting your IELTS remark request.
Recommended validity period of IELTS results
The validity period of IELTS results varies depending on the institution or organisation that requires them. However, as a general guideline, most institutions accept IELTS results that are up to two years old. It's crucial for test-takers to check the specific requirements of the institution they are applying to or seeking registration with to ensure their results are within the accepted validity period.
Advice on maintaining or improving English proficiency
Consistent practice and exposure to the English language are key. Engaging in activities such as reading books and the news in English as well as listening to English podcasts can help reinforce language skills.
Candidates may also consider enrolling in English language courses or hiring a tutor for personalised support in areas of weakness.
If you're aiming to enhance your IELTS score and results, there are several options you can choose from:
Full test retake: You can redo the entire test to improve your overall score.
Individual section retake: Focus on specific sections, such as Writing or Speaking, allowing you to target areas where improvement is desired.
IELTS One Skill retake: Gives you the opportunity to retake only one section of the test that you would like to improve on. However, this option is subject to the policies of individual test centres.
Didn't quite hit your target score in one IELTS module? The IELTS One Skill retake offers a faster, more focused route to improvement. Here are some important information:
To qualify for the IELTS One Skill retake, you must have taken the full IELTS test within the past two years and received an overall band score.
Contact the test centre where you took the IELTS exam to inquire about the One Skill retake option. Upon confirmation of eligibility, you can proceed with the registration process. This typically involves submitting a formal request and completing the necessary paperwork, including payment of the retake fee. Once registered, you will be scheduled for the retake of the selected section on a designated IELTS test date in Thailand. The format and conditions of the retake will be identical to those of the original test.
Following the completion of the retake, your new score for the specific skill area will be reported separately from your original overall band score. This allows for clear differentiation between the two sets of results.
The score obtained from the IELTS One Skill retake remains valid for the same duration as your overall IELTS test score, typically two years from the test date. This ensures that your improved score is recognized and accepted by relevant institutions and organisations within the established validity period.
These flexible options empower you to tailor your approach to improving your IELTS results and enhancing your English proficiency effectively.
