What first inspired you to take the IELTS test?

Seachan - IDP IELTS Ambassador Thailand Gen 2

My main goal is to use my IELTS score for the portfolio admission round to the Faculty of Arts at Chulalongkorn University. It all started when my dad suggested I try IELTS because there are many test sessions and you can sit the test quite often, almost every Saturday, which gives you more chances. As for the motivation to really learn English, I want to work abroad. I love the lifestyle and culture I see in international films and music videos, and I want to experience that for myself at least once.

How did you prepare and how did you handle the most challenging part?

I mainly studied with IELTS by prep. My technique was to build a strong personal vocabulary bank first, then practice lots of test questions. If you ask what matters most, I would say discipline and mindset. If you only have discipline but study without a purpose, you will feel very stressed. Mental health must come first. For me, a good mindset is picturing your future self in a version you like, and the discipline will follow naturally.

The most difficult part for me was Speaking. I am not very coherent when I talk and I get flustered when speaking with strangers. My fix was to practice in front of a mirror often to reduce nerves, and I also record short clips of myself telling stories. I have not posted them yet though.

Besides taking the test, you were also selected as an IDP IELTS Ambassador. How was that?

I really want to share this. I decided to submit my application video just one hour before the deadline. I thought I had to try, otherwise I would regret not doing it. I was surprised when I got selected, and I was very happy to receive this opportunity. Creating content was tough at first because I was worried it would not be fun. But as I kept going, I started to find my own style. I enjoy brainstorming ideas and editing in my own way. This program has made me more confident, more expressive, and much more creative. I am very grateful to the IDP team who took great care of us. If possible, I would love to join again next year.

Finally, tell us about your real test day and leave a message for friends who are about to take the test.

I took my test at the IDP test centre in Korat. I was very nervous at first, so I did not perform as well as I could. The staff there were so kind and friendly, which made the atmosphere relaxed and helped me feel safe. To be honest, I was not very satisfied with my score and I want to take the test again. But it is okay. I now understand my current ability and can improve from here.

Still, having an IELTS score really opens many doors. You can use it for so many applications. For friends who are about to take the test, I want to say: take it easy, have fun, do not stress. Stay relaxed with the test and you will get the band score you dream of.
