In more blatant words, these two test types are exactly the same. Although UKVI IELTS (or IELTS for UKVI) states it is an IELTS test for UKVI (UK Visas and Immigration), it doesn't mean it can only be used for UK student visa applications. UKVI IELTS test results can be used as standard IELTS test results other countries.

So if I plan on studying abroad in the UK, I must that the UKVI IELTS test right?

Not necessarily. You only need to take the UKVI IELTS test if you plan attending one the following:

  • Foundation

  • Pre-Sessional

  • Pre-Master

Although only standard IELTS is required for UK university direct entry applications, due to the difference in academic structure, most Taiwanese high school graduates will need to attend Foundation courses first before being omitted into university.

If you are accepted into university based on a conditional offer. The university will likely require you to first attend Pre-Sessional or Pre-Master courses to make-up your insufficient IELTS band score or academic history.

Based on the fore mentioned reasons, we strong suggest that Taiwanese student take the IELTS for UKVI test if the UK is your main study destination.
