Effective from 2025 Feb. 3, non-residents of Taiwan will no longer be eligible to register for IELTS paper-based tests. However, they may still register for IELTS computer-delivered tests. This policy has been jointly established by the official IELTS test owners, IDP Education and British Council, and applies to all IELTS paper-based tests in Taiwan.

New Registration Requirements for IELTS Paper-Based Tests

  • Non-Taiwan passport holders wishing to register for IELTS paper-based tests must submit valid proof of residency via the IDP IELTS official support email (TW001.administrator@idp.com) at least three days before the scheduled test date. The proof of residency must confirm a legal stay in Taiwan for a minimum of three months.

  • On the test day, candidates must bring the original proof of residency document to the test venue for verification by the invigilators.

  • If acceptable proof of residency cannot be provided, candidates may choose to transfer to a computer-delivered test. Otherwise, the original test registration will be canceled, and a full refund of the test fee will be issued.

*Candidates who registered and paid for IELTS paper-based tests before the announcement of this policy are exempt and may proceed with their test as scheduled.

Accepted Proof of Residence Documents

  • Alien Resident Certificate (ARC)

  • Resident Visas for Foreign Students
