No, you don’t have to take IELTS One Skill Retake at the same centre where you did your original test. You can choose any IELTS test centre that also offers One Skill Retake. As long as you've taken IELTS on computer, you can see the option of IELTS One Skill Retake in your IELTS account up to 60 days after your test date. 1. If you've taken an eligible IELTS on computer test, log in to your IELTS profile to view your recent IELTS results 2. Click on the "Retake" button for the section of the test you wish to retake 3. Select your preferred IELTS One Skill Retake test centre 4. Select your IELTS One Skill Retake test date within 60 days of your original full test date

Yes. For visa categories that accept IELTS, Immigration New Zealand recognises either IELTS Academic or General Training (they also accept IELTS One Skill Retake). If both Academic and General Training are accepted for your visa, many test takers find General Training to be the slightly easier option. As score requirements for different visas can change, always check the Immigration New Zealand website for the most up-to-date information.

Yes, the audio conversation will always follow the order of questions in the test. Make sure you pay attention to what the speaker(s) are saying so you can listen for the answer and understand when they are moving onto the next question.

Highlight the key word in the question first. When looking at your options, see if any of them are closely related. This will help you focus. Also make sure the whole sentence is mentioned - not just one or two key words.

Absolutely. Some people find short answer questions challenging because they require you to write or type your answer to a question, rather than choosing it from a list of options. Here’s what you can do to prepare yourself for these kinds of questions.   Before your read the text (or before the audio starts for IELTS Listening), read the instructions carefully and check how many words you can write in each blank (e.g. one word, two words, or a number). Identify keywords in the questions. This will help you focus on the most important information in the recording or the text and identify what type of information you are looking for.   After writing or typing your answer, don’t forget to check your spelling as the answer may be marked wrong if it is incorrect.

Firstly, the answers appear in order. But then have a look at the headings and sub-headings. They will act as signposts while you listen and indicate the type of answer you need. There may be some other examples already provided in the column too.

If you do your IELTS on Computer test, you will be given individual headphones for the Listening test. You will be able to adjust the headphones size and volume yourself to what is comfortable for you. If you do your IELTS on Paper test, the Listening test is often played over a loudspeaker to the room, so you do not have your own headphones. However, some centres may have headphones for the IELTS on Paper test. I suggest you contact your test centre beforehand to see if they have headphones for the IELTS on Paper test.

Absolutely. IELTS not only tests your English skills but also helps you feel prepared and confident to study in an English-speaking environment. The IELTS Academic test involves reading academic texts, writing essays, understanding lectures and talking on a topic – all important skills for university success. As you prepare for IELTS, you’ll become familiar with common university tasks such as analysing data, arguing a particular viewpoint and taking notes during a lecture. When you prepare for the Reading and Writing sections, you’ll expand your academic vocabulary. Preparing for the Speaking test will help you prepare to talk in tutorials, presentations and group discussions when you start your course.

The IELTS test delivery and standards are similar across the board and partnership. You can give an IELTS test in Canada or U.A.E. and will have a similar experience. Policies, procedures and protocols remain same across the IELTS brand.

No. IELTS uses human raters for their tests. All examiners go through a rigorous training process and are closely monitored to ensure they rate to standard.

You’ll need a laptop or a desktop computer with a keyboard with language set to Australian, US or UK English. You can’t take an IELTS Online test on a tablet or mobile device. Your computer will need to have a web camera, speakers, a microphone and a stable internet connection. If you’re using Windows, the operating system requirements are 10 or 11 on 64-bit platforms and 10.15 or higher on Mac. You can read a full list of system requirements on our website where you can also download the Inspera Integrity Browser (IIB) to check if your computer is suitable for IELTS Online.
