What happens when I get my IELTS test remarked?

When you request a remark, your Writing and Speaking Enquiry on Results (EOR) re-marking is completed by experienced senior IELTS examiners. Your test centre is then notified of the remarked result and if the mark has changed, you will receive a new Test Report Form (TRF).

When should I apply for a remark of my IELTS test (Enquiry on Results)?

The request for a remark must be made within 6 weeks of the date shown on your Test Report Form (TRF). You can request a remark on the whole test or any part of it (Listening, Reading, Writing or Speaking).

How much does it cost to request a remark of my IELTS test?

You must pay an enquiry fee, which is fully refunded if your band score changes. Contact your local test centre for more information about fees.

How long will it take to remark my IELTS test?

We understand you may need your IELTS results for study, work or migration. So, that’s why we do our best to re-mark your test as quickly as we can. Your EOR results are available within 2 hours to 21 days, depending on several factors including the number of sections requested for remark. If you have not received a response after 28 days, please contact your test centre.

I received an outcome of my re-mark within less than 2 hours. Did someone look at my test?

Yes, we look at every single re-mark request. Even if your score did not change, IELTS will have re-marked your test. So, how come we can do this so quickly?
Of course, we understand you want an outcome as soon as possible. Writing and Speaking Enquiry on Results (EOR) remarking is completed by experienced senior IELTS examiners globally. Each senior examiner only marks one section of your test. Consequently, these examiners can mark different parts of your test at the same time. This process usually takes a few hours to a couple of days.

Should I apply for an EOR, or just wait to re-sit my test?

If you feel confident that you have done better than your score shows, applying for an EOR is one option for you. Writing and Speaking Enquiry on Results (EOR) re-marking is completed by experienced senior IELTS examiners.  After this second assessment, your score either stays the same or is higher, depending on the senior examiner’s rating.

Why has my test centre sent me the result of my EOR, I thought IDP head office remarked it?

EOR requests and all IELTS test day matters are handled by your test centre.  IDP responds to the EOR requests by using a team of senior examiners.
