Unfortunately, no, you cannot leave early. You must remain until the end of the test. Each component has a designated time, so we suggest you use all the time to ensure you are completely happy with your responses.

Yes, it will be marked in the exact same way. Whether you type your responses on a computer or handwrite them on paper, all IELTS Writing tasks are assessed by certified human examiners using the exact same official band descriptors across Task Achievement/Response, Coherence and Cohesion, Lexical Resource, and Grammatical Range and Accuracy. You may review our official band descriptors for writing here: https://ielts.idp.com/results/scores/writing

Yes, it is available in selected test centres across the Middle East. Rollout varies by country and test venue, so candidates should check local test date availability directly through their local IDP Education booking portal to confirm if the hybrid Writing on Paper option is offered at their closest chosen testing centre.

Yes, you can. Because the test is registered and delivered under the IELTS on Computer testing framework, you remain eligible for IELTS One Skill Retake (OSR). If you decide to retake the Writing component specifically, you will complete the retake in that same Writing on Paper delivery format.

It will not be shown on your results which method you choose to give your writing module. Your official IELTS Test Report Form (TRF) displays only your band scores, personal candidate details, and standard test information; it does not distinguish or indicate whether you completed the Writing component by typing on a computer or by hand on paper.

The Speaking test is conducted in the exact same way regardless of whether you choose IELTS Writing on Computer or the Writing on Paper option. It is always a live, one-on-one interview with a certified human examiner, either in person or via high-definition video call at the test center, following the exact same 3-part structure, 11- to 14-minute duration, and official band scoring criteria.

You will not receive different question types, content, or difficulty levels if you select the Writing on Paper option. Whether you type your responses or write them by hand on paper, the IELTS Writing test maintains identical task prompts (Task 1 and Task 2), timing (60 minutes), and scoring standards assessed against the same official band descriptors. The only distinction lies in delivery mode: writing your answers by hand rather than typing them on a keyboard.

Switching writing modules from Writing on Paper to Writing on Computer and vice versa is only possible if the test fee is similar for both the products. You may reach out to your closest test centre for support in guiding you on how to transfer or re-book a different module of the test.

IELTS One Skill Retake (OSR) is exclusively available to candidates whose full, original test was taken on a computer; if your original exam was paper-based, you are not eligible for One Skill Retake in any format and must retake all four skills.

No, you cannot wear smart glasses to the IELTS test; all wearable electronic and recording devices are strictly prohibited. Test center staff inspect all eyewear before room entry, and any frames featuring embedded cameras, microphones, Bluetooth, or digital displays will be confiscated, regardless of whether they have prescription lenses. Wearing or attempting to sneak smart glasses into the exam is classified as severe malpractice, resulting in immediate disqualification, cancellation of your results, and a potential global ban from future tests.

No, absolutely no one can take the IELTS test on your behalf; impersonation is treated as serious fraud and severe malpractice. IELTS test centers enforce strict biometric protocols, including mandatory on-site digital photography, facial scans, and identity document verification before anyone enters the test room. Because the photograph taken on test day is printed directly onto your Test Report Form (TRF) and logged into the central online verification portal used by universities and visa officers, proxy test-taking is virtually guaranteed to be detected. Engaging an impersonator will lead to immediate disqualification, a multi-year or permanent worldwide IELTS ban.
