Yes, your IELTS results can be withheld or permanently cancelled even after they have been issued. As part of our commitment to maintaining the integrity of the assessment globally, the IELTS Test Partners routinely conduct strict quality control checks. Your results may be temporarily delayed for these routine analyses, or permanently withdrawn if any irregularities or suspected malpractice are identified during or after your session. Furthermore, if any data on your Test Report Form is found to have been altered when submitted to a Recognising Organisation, your original score will be invalidated.

The test content is the same as the IELTS Writing test on computer, and your work will be assessed in exactly the same way by trained IELTS examiners using the official IELTS Writing band descriptors. The best way to prepare is to use our IELTS Prepare Hub , where you find can find computer-delivered practice tests that show how the Writing tasks appear on screen during the test. You’ll also have access to videos, podcasts and articles to help you understand the task requirements, develop your writing skills and feel more confident on test day.

Yes, IELTS is the most widely recognised English language test globally. It is accepted by more than 13,500 organisations, such as universities, employers, professional bodies, and governments worldwide. So if you’re not too sure where you’ll be using your English language scores, it’s good to take a test that offers you flexibility.

No, you cannot. You are only permitted to take one One Skill Retake for each full IELTS test you complete. If you need to improve your score in a second skill, or if you want to try the same skill again, you must book and sit for a completely new full IELTS test.

Honestly, the One Skill Retake is a huge relief for candidates because it saves you both time and money. Instead of going through the stress of retaking the entire four-part exam, you can focus all your study efforts on just the one specific section you want to improve. The best part is that it is completely risk-free, you receive a new Test Report Form with your updated score, but your original results remain perfectly valid, allowing you to choose whichever outcome works best for you application.

You must book and sit for the One Skill Retake within 60 days of your original full IELTS test date. It is highly recommended to book early within that 60-day window to ensure you get a test date that works for you before the deadline expires. Please check with your local test centre for exact details on availability.

No, IELTS scores are not guaranteed. Your result depends entirely on how you perform on test day against official assessment criteria. No test centre, preparation provider, or examiner can promise or lock in a specific band score in advance. If someone tells you they can guarantee an IELTS score, they are running a scam. No individual, agency, or preparation centre has the ability to manipulate the testing system or bypass the strict information security and governance protocols maintained across the testing network. Scores are earned purely based on your actual performance under strictly invigilated conditions. Anyone making these fraudulent promises is simply trying to take advantage of you financially and could severely jeopardize your future applications. The best course of action is to cut contact immediately and report the fraudulent claim to official IELTS channels to help protect other candidates and the integrity of the test. You may write to security@idp.com.

Statistically, Writing is the most difficult IELTS skill, consistently yielding the lowest global average band scores. It is the most challenging because it requires candidates to actively produce two structurally distinct, formal essays under a strict 60-minute time limit while being rigorously graded on grammar, vocabulary, cohesion, and task response. You can improve your writing skills by visiting the Prepare for IELTS section in IELTSbyIDP App.
