Learn the many benefits of taking IELTS on Computer.

Comparing IELTS on Computer and IELTS on Paper

You can choose to take IELTS on Computer for both the General Training and Academic tests. The test format, question types, time allocated to each test part and content is the same for both IELTS on Computer and IELTS on Paper. Your answers and responses will be assessed on the same criteria, ensuring a fair, reliable, and consistent assessment no matter what test format you choose.

The only difference is in your test day experience. If you choose to complete the computer-based version of the test, you will do the Reading, Listening, and Writing parts of the test using a computer. All answers will be typed on the screen. You will also be able to write notes on a notes sheet during the Listening test.

The IELTS Speaking portion remains the same for IELTS on Computer assessments, with a face-to-face interview with an examiner. The Speaking test will be completed either just before, or just after the Reading, Listening, and Writing test parts.

Why choose the IELTS on Computer test?

Benefits of opting for the IELTS on Computer include:

  • Faster results within 3-5 days.

  • Able to adjust the test template to your liking, font size or background colour to make you more comfortable.

  • Highlight and note function.

  • Copy and paste answer during Reading, reducing the risk of misspelling answers.

  • Auto word counts during Writing test to meet the Task 1 and Task 2 standards.

  • Easily editable during Writing test, moving the entire paragraph or parts of it with just click and drag.

How the IELTS on Computer test works

The IELTS on Computer test, available through IDP Cambodia, offers a cutting-edge approach to the traditional IELTS on Paper. This format incorporates the same rigour and standard of assessment, with the added advantage of a digital interface.

Listening

During the IELTS on Computer Listening test, you will be provided with high-quality headphones to listen to four audio recordings. You'll have 30 minutes to complete 40 questions displayed on the screen, ranging from multiple-choice to sentence completion. The digital format allows you to control the audio volume directly on-screen, enhancing your test experience. At the end of the computer-delivered assessment, a 2-minute review period is allotted for you to check your answers.

Reading

In the Reading section of IELTS on Computer, you'll encounter three text passages accompanied by various questions, to be completed in 60 minutes. Interface features such as text highlighting and zoom controls enhance your reading experience, allowing you to navigate and focus on key text segments efficiently.

Writing

The Writing section in the IELTS on Computer requires completion of two tasks within 60 minutes. This section is streamlined with digital tools for word processing, although features like copy-paste and spell-check are disabled to uphold the integrity of the test. Advantages of the computer-based test format compared to a traditional paper exam include easy editing, clear formatting, and an auto-save function.

Speaking

The Speaking test in the IELTS on Computer remains a face-to-face interview with an examiner. This 11 to 14-minute conversation evaluates your spoken English skills in a real-life context. Although not conducted on a computer, this component complements the digital elements of the test, ensuring a comprehensive assessment of your English language proficiency.

Test environment

The IELTS on Computer test environment is designed for minimal distractions. Each candidate is provided with headphones for the Listening test, and the user-friendly computer interface is tailored to ensure a comfortable testing experience from start to finish.
