If you want to cancel or postpone your IELTS test, you must do this at least 5 weeks before your test date.
Download the Request a refund or test day transfer form and submit it to your relevant test centre.
If you do not appear on test day without notifying the test centre, you will not get a refund of your test fee. If you want to retake the test on another day, you must register and pay the test fee again.

Transfers
15 or more days before Listening, Reading, Writing Test Date • Free Transfer is allowed
Within 5–14 days of Listening, Reading, Writing Test Date • Transfer allowed – an administrative fee up to 25% of test fee paid is charged
Within 4 days of Listening, Reading, Writing Test Date • No Transfer allowed – any transfer during this period is treated as a cancellation
Cancellation
15 or more days before Listening, Reading, Writing Test Date • Cancellation is allowed – a refund of 75% of test fee paid can be claimed
Within 14 days of Listening, Reading, Writing Test Date • Cancellation is allowed – Test fee is non-refundable
Exceptional circumstances and special consideration
Special consideration includes instances such as:
a traumatic experience; domestic crisis
unavoidable legal or military obligation
serious medical conditions which prevent test takers from attending or performing normally on the test day
bereavement or other forms of significant hardship; civil unrest or extreme weather
Apply before the test and up to two calendar days after the test date. Applications will not be accepted after results have been released.
A refund or transfer, in some cases, subject to an administrative fee.
Certain circumstances outside of test centre control:
natural disaster; industrial action
global pandemic or for reasons of force majeure
civil unrest or extreme weather
technical failure, venue or environmental factors
Choice of either a full refund, or a transfer to a future test date – whichever the test taker prefers.
