As the world emerges from COVID-19, the government of Canada has decided to expand its Student Direct Stream (SDS) to include seven more countries. Students in the following countries who wish to pursue higher studies in Canada can now apply for a faster study permit:

  • Antigua and Barbuda

  • Brazil

  • Colombia

  • Costa Rica

  • Peru

  • St. Vincent and the Grenadines

  • Trinidad and Tobago

Launched in 2018, SDS is an expedited study permit processing programme that fast-tracks outcome on most applications within 20 calendar days. To make this possible, students are required to submit biometrics and additional information upfront. This allows officers to make a thorough assessment and make a final decision quickly.

With the additional countries added to the list, SDS is now available to students in a total of 14 countries.

What it means for students?

With the expansion of SDS, the immigration department is expected to be inundated with applications in the coming weeks. Whether you're applying for a bachelors degree or a post-graduate programme, one of the first steps is to take an English language proficiency test.
