For anyone wishing to relocate permanently to the UK (commonly known as applying for 'long residence' or 'leave to remain'), proof of English language proficiency is a must.

The UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) accepts IELTS Academic , IELTS General Training and IELTS Life Skills as evidence of English language ability for anyone planning to live, work or study in the UK.
