Taking IELTS is a critical step in your educational or immigration journey, so the decision to cancel or reschedule/postpone your exam should not be taken lightly.  However, things happen and sometimes a cancellation or rescheduling is necessary.

Cancelling or rescheduling an IELTS exam must be done following very strict guidelines due to the serious nature of the exam and should be done as early as possible.

Read on to learn about the rules around cancelling or rescheduling an IELTS exam in Canada as well as answers to some of the most commonly asked questions about this process.

Here is what you need to know if you wish to reschedule or cancel your IELTS test.

  • If you reschedule or cancel your application more than five (5) weeks before the test date, you will receive a refund minus an administration charge.

  • If you reschedule or cancel within five (5) weeks of the test date, you will be charged the full fee unless you have a serious medical reason.

  • If you provide a medical certificate within five (5) days of the test date, you will receive a refund minus the local administrative cost.

Be sure to contact your test centre to get the latest information on this process as different centres handle cancellations and rescheduling slightly differently.
