You can cancel your IELTS test booking at any time before taking the test by notifying the test centre. Refund eligibility and any applicable charges depend on when you cancel and whether exceptional circumstances apply.
If you cancel 15 or more days before your Listening, Reading, and Writing test date, you can receive a refund of your test fee, less a $75 administrative charge.
If you cancel within 14 days of your Listening, Reading, and Writing test date, your test fee is non-refundable.
Special consideration may be granted in exceptional circumstances, including:
- A traumatic experience
- A domestic crisis
- An unavoidable legal or military obligation
- A serious medical condition that prevents you from attending or performing normally on the test day
- Bereavement or other forms of significant hardship
- Civil unrest or extreme weather
You may apply for special consideration before the test date and up to two calendar days after the test date. Applications for special consideration will not be accepted after test results have been released.

You may request a transfer of your IELTS test booking at any time before taking the test by notifying the test centre. Transfers are subject to availability and the transfer rules outlined below. You cannot transfer your test booking to another person or to a different test centre.
The following transfer rules apply for IELTS:
If you request a transfer 15 or more days before your Listening, Reading, and Writing test date, one free transfer is allowed.
If you request a transfer within 5 to 14 days of your Listening, Reading, and Writing test date, a transfer is allowed subject to a $75 administrative fee.
If you request a transfer within 4 days of your Listening, Reading, and Writing test date, no transfer is allowed. Any transfer request during this period will be treated as a cancellation.
