How do I register for an IELTS test?

1. Choose your test date and location
2. Complete the registration process and user profile

Upload a high-quality colour scan of an ID document, either your current valid passport or both sides of your Permanent Resident (PR) Card or Secure Certificate of Indian Status Card (SCIS)

Pay by credit card or Interac Online. Once you book a test you have 24 hours to complete the payment. After 24 hours your application will expire.

3. Review your confirmation email and get started on your free online IELTS prep!
If you have previously created a user profile when registering for an account and are re-applying for a test, you do not need to sign up, you can simply sign in using the username and password you originally created. You do not need to upload your ID document again unless it is different from what you previously submitted.
Important Information
You must bring the ID document used for registration with you on test day – either your valid passport, Permanent Resident (PR) Card or Secure Certificate of Indian Status Card (SCIS). Photocopies of either document will not be accepted.

What can I expect on test day?

Details of the test will be shared with you in your payment confirmation email. For testing on paper, the speaking test may be scheduled up to seven days prior to or after the written exam. You will receive an email from our team up to five days prior to the test confirming the speaking test time.
You will need to arrive at least 30 minutes prior to each test. Candidates will not be allowed in the test until 10 minutes prior to the scheduled test time.
Personal items are not allowed in the test room. This includes jackets/bulky clothes, wallets, keys, watches, phones, hats, etc. The only items allowed in the test room are a clear bottle of water and the original ID you have registered with.
The written components of the test will take approximately three hours. The speaking test will take approximately 20 minutes.

I have a special requirement. How do I apply for modified test materials?

Requests for modified test materials must be made at least 6 weeks prior to your test date.

Your request needs to be supported by medical evidence meeting the following criteria:

The medical evidence should be in English and legible.

The medical evidence should be an original document on letterhead and bearing the name, relevant qualification(s) and signature of a recognized practitioner.

The medical evidence should give a clear statement of the test taker’s disability.

The medical evidence should make it clear how the disability justifies special arrangements.

Additional criteria apply in the case of applications for accommodation for test takers with specific learning disabilities (e.g. dyslexia):

The medical evidence must be in the form of a report prepared in a period no more than two years prior to the date of the IELTS test.

The report must include details of the degree of disability.

The report must include an assurance that the evidence of specific difficulties was obtained through the results of appropriate and recognized tests.

The report must be provided by a fully qualified educational, clinical or chartered psychologist.

Question 5

I have a special requirement. How do I apply for administrative arrangements?

Accepted Answer

Applications that only involve administrative arrangements such as extra time, supervised breaks or assistance with reading or writing, are authorized at the centre. Candidates should give at least 6 weeks’ notice of their requirement for these arrangements to allow centres time to check medical evidence where appropriate, and to organize practical matters such as extra staff or rooms.

How can I send my results to a college, university, or other registered organization?

Accepted Answer

When you register to take the exam, you can provide the names and addresses of the organizations you would like to receive your results. IDP Canada IELTS Test Centre will also send official results to the recognized organization of your choice at no extra charge. A fee may apply if courier is chosen as a method of delivery for postal recognized organizations.

If you wish to cancel your request to send IELTS results to an organization you indicated on your registration form, please send an email to ielts.canada@idp.com. The deadline for cancelling the delivery of your TRF to an organization is 5 days after you take the test.

Please note that if your IELTS results are more than 2 years old the IELTS Test Centre can no longer access your results as the validity period has expired.

Question 7

I don’t think my scores are correct.  How do I appeal my results?

Accepted Answer

If you do not agree with your IELTS result, you may request that your test be re-marked. You can choose to have one or more parts of your test remarked. This is called an Enquiry on Results (EoR).

In order to initiate the EoR, you must submit the IELTS Enquiry on Results Form linked below. Once we receive this document, we will send you an online invoice that you can pay via debit or credit in the amount of $200.

The deadline for initiating an EoR is 6 weeks after the date of your test.

The re-marking process can take between 2 hours to 21 days. If the result of the re-mark is higher than your original result, you will need to return your current Test Report Form and will receive a new Test Report Form in the mail and a full refund of your $200 administrative fee to the original method of payment.

If the result of the remark is not higher than your original results, you will receive an EoR letter stating your final result status. You should make all enquiries regarding the progress of your remark to your original test centre.

What is a serious cause for IELTS test cancellation?

Accepted Answer

For the purpose of cancelling or rescheduling an IELTS exam, serious causes include:

Serious illness such as a hospital visit or injury that prevented you from taking the test. To prove a serious illness, you must present Hospital record(s) that clearly shows the illness prevented you from attending the test. A general doctor’s note from Walk-In visits will not be considered.

Loss or bereavement such as the death of a family member. Requires a death certificate.

Hardship/ Trauma such as a traffic accident or crime. Requires a police report.

Military Service. Requires an official letter from your country’s government.

What if I need my test results couriered somewhere?

Accepted Answer

There is a $35 fee to have your test results couriered within Canada or the United States, and a $80 fee to have your results couriered internationally.

I want to cancel my test. What is the IELTS cancellation policy?

Accepted Answer

Once you have registered to take IELTS, you may ONLY request to cancel or transfer your test to another day via email, letter, or in person. You may NOT cancel or transfer your date by phone or fax.
If you cancel MORE than 5 weeks before your scheduled test date, you can receive a full refund of your registration fee (minus an administrative charge of $75)
If you cancel LESS than 5 weeks before the test date, you will not receive a refund. You are responsible for the full test fee UNLESS you provide evidence of a serious cause (see the section on what is a serious cause for IELTS test cancellation?).
Arriving late or not appearing on test day counts as a cancellation, and you will NOT receive a refund. In this case, you must register for a new test at a future date.

Question 11

How do I change the date of my IELTS test?

Accepted Answer

You need to submit an application to change the date of your IELTS test.
If you submit your application to change your test date MORE than 5 weeks before the scheduled test date, you will be charged an administrative fee of $75. You will only be able to transfer to dates within the next 3 months and only to days with available space.
Test takers who want to transfer to a test date more than 3 months away should apply for a refund and then re-register for the test.
If you apply for a Test Date Transfer LESS than 5 weeks before the scheduled test date, this counts as a cancellation, and you will not receive a refund unless you can provide evidence of a serious cause (see next FAQ section).

How do I apply for a refund for not attending a scheduled IELTS test?

In order to receive a refund for not attending a scheduled IELTS test, you must apply no later than 5 business days after the test date by filling out the cancellation form and attaching the appropriate documentation or evidence Documentation can include a note from a qualified medical practitioner, police report, or death certificate.
The Test Centre Administrator will advise you within one week of submitting your application whether or not your request for a refund has been approved.
It is not enough to submit a declaration signed by yourself or a member of your family.

Can I get an electronic copy of IELTS results?

Accepted Answer

IELTS provides you with an official, secure, digital and paper Test Report Form (TRF). eTRFs are now available for customers who sit the IELTS on computer test. The eTRF will be available in your booking profile as a downloadable PDF file.If you sat the paper test, we can either post the TRF out to you or we can e-mail it you . If you need your original TRF urgently, you can always ask your test centre to express post it to you (just be aware there might be an additional charge for this).
