If you’re interested in moving to Nova Scotia, you must submit an expression of interest (EOI) to a Nova Scotia Nominee Program (NSNP) stream. You can then apply as a Skilled Worker, Nova Scotia Graduate, or Entrepreneur. Here are the language requirements for each stream:
Applicants must prove language ability equal to Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) Level 5 if they are in a NOC TEER category 0, 1, 2, or 3 occupation. If their first language is English or French, that is enough proof. Workers in a NOC TEER 4 or 5 occupation must have test results to prove they meet CLB 4 even if their first language is English or French. The IELTS equivalent of a CLB 5 is Reading (4.0), Writing (5.0), Listening (5.0), and Speaking (5.0).
Applicants must prove language ability equal to Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) Level 5. The IELTS equivalent is Reading (4.0), Writing (5.0), Listening (5.0), and Speaking (5.0).
Applicants must have a score of at least 5 on the Canadian Language Benchmark in speaking, listening, reading, and writing in English or French. The IELTS equivalent is Reading (4.0), Writing (5.0), Listening (5.0), and Speaking (5.0).
The Nova Scotia Express Entry stream selects highly skilled individuals who wish to live in Nova Scotia permanently. Applicants must prove language ability in English or French on the Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB). You will need CLB 7 for skilled work in the National Occupational Classification (NOC) TEER 0 and 1. You need CLB 5 for NOC TEER 2 and 3 positions. The IELTS equivalent of a CLB 7 is Reading (6.0), Writing (6.0), Listening (6.0), and Speaking (6.0).
If you intend to study in Nova Scotia, IELTS requirements will vary depending on the program and educational institution you apply to. It is always recommended that you check the college or university website for updates and the latest information on admission requirements. Your results must be dated within the last two years, and you must choose the IELTS Academic test.
The IELTS scores required often range from an overall band score of 6.0 to 7.0:
At Saint Mary’s University (SMU), for instance, applicants need an IELTS Academic minimum score of 6.5 with no individual score below 6.0 for undergraduate programs. Graduates need a minimum of 6.5 with no individual score below 6.0.
At Dalhousie University, the minimum IELTS score required is an overall score of 6.5, with a minimum of 6.0 in each band.
