IELTS Online offers a fresh approach to the IELTS Academic test. You now have the option to take this leading English language test from your home or a private location with a stable internet connection. Moreover, it adheres to the same format and duration as the IELTS on Paper or IELTS on Computer Academic test in a test centre, ensuring you receive an authentic testing experience.
IELTS Online assesses your English-language proficiency across four key skills: Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking. The Speaking test is conducted online via video call with an accredited IELTS examiner.
It's not just convenient; it's also secure, with multi-layered security processes in pre-test, test day and post-test operations. Recognising Organisations (ROs) will also use the same online verification system for in-centre results.

Provides flexibility by allowing you to choose where you want to take the test.
Conducts the Speaking test via a live video call with an accredited IELTS examiner.
Utilises IELTS multi-layered security processes for a secure testing experience.
IELTS on Computer:
Requires you to visit a test centre to take the test on a computer.
Offers the same test content and assessment criteria as the traditional IELTS on paper.
Provides a familiar test centre environment for those who prefer in-person testing.
Conducts the Speaking test face-to-face with an examiner at the test centre.
Utilises robust security measures to ensure the integrity of the test.
In summary, IELTS Online is designed for those who prefer the convenience of taking the test from home, while the IELTS on Computer offers a traditional in-person testing experience just via a computer-delivered medium. Both options maintain the same high standards of security and assessment to help you achieve your desired band score.

Laptop or desktop computer: IELTS Online can only be taken on a laptop or desktop computer. Mobile devices, tablets, and Chromebooks are not supported.
Keyboard with language settings: Ensure that your keyboard is set to Australian, USA, or UK English to match the test language.
Web Camera: A functioning web camera is essential for proctoring purposes, allowing remote invigilation of the test.
Speakers and microphone: You'll need speakers and a microphone for audio communication during the Speaking test.
Stable internet connection: A reliable internet connection is crucial to avoid disruptions during the test.
Mobile phone with camera: A mobile phone with a camera may be required for the check-in process to assist in room scanning. However, it must be switched off during the test.
It's important to note that some items are restricted or not allowed during the IELTS Online test:
Headphones, headsets, or ear devices: These are not allowed.
Bluetooth devices: Your keyboard, mouse, web camera, speakers, and microphone must all be either inbuilt or wired.
VPNs or mobile hotspots: These are not permitted.
Multiple screens: Using multiple screens is not allowed.
Additionally, candidates should meet the specified system requirements, including the operating system, CPU, RAM, graphics driver, storage, and browser compatibility. These requirements ensure that the IELTS Online platform functions correctly.
While these equipment and system requirements may differ from the in-person test centre experience, they are essential for a successful IELTS Online test.
