What is a Test Report Form (TRF)?

Your official IELTS score is stated on your Test Report Form or TRF.

The TRF serves as your official confirmation of your IELTS test results and shows your overall band score, as well as sub band scores for each section of the test: Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking.

The TRF can either be a paper certificate or a digital version (eTRF).

You will receive one official physical copy of your IELTS Test Report Form, which is valid for two years.

What is an eTRF?

An IELTS eTRF is a digital version of the IELTS Test Report Form. It's the same IELTS TRF you know, delivered digitally.

IELTS eTRFs are now available for test takers who sit the IELTS on Computer test at eligible test centres. The eTRF can be accessed through the online portal.

Preview your provisional IELTS results

You will be able to view your provisional IELTS results online, once they are available. However, this should not be used as an official confirmation of your performance — only the TRF or eTRF are considered as official confirmation of results.

To preview your results online, you will need your passport or ID number (the same number you used when you registered for the test). Contact your test centre if you have any queries or issues.

What do my IELTS scores mean?

Results for the IELTS test are given on a 9-band scale. They are designed to be easy and simple to understand. The results are reported as band scores on a scale from 1 to 9, with 1 being the lowest and 9 indicating the highest level of English language proficiency.

You will receive a band score for each section of the test—Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking. These individual scores, which are equally weighted, are then averaged and rounded to the nearest half band, to produce an overall band score.

The same scoring system is used for both the IELTS Academic and IELTS General Training tests.

Enquiry on Results (EOR)

You can ask for a review or re-mark of your score(s) if you are not satisfied with your results through a process known as Enquiry on Results (EOR).

What happens during the review process?

  • Senior examiners/markers, who are not aware of the original marks awarded for each test section (Listening, Reading, Writing or Speaking), re-mark the test papers.

  • After receiving notice of the re-mark result, your test centre issues a new Test Report Form (TRF) if the score has changed.

Depending on a number of factors, such as the number of sections requested for a re-mark, the results of your EOR may be completed within less than an hour or up to 21 days. Please get in touch with your test centre or IELTS Partner if you have not received a response after 21 days.

You must pay an Enquiry on Results fee to get your IELTS test re-marked. If your band score changes, the fee will be fully refundable.
