Payment for IELTS test

The official IELTS test cost NZD$410 (including GST) in 2024. Payment is required at the time of your online application. Note that some locations may be subject to an additional surcharge.

The price for the exam is the same whether you take IELTS General Training or IELTS Academic. There is no separate registration fee, payment processing fee, or late payment fee.

Is there a fee for late bookings?

With IELTS, there are no additional fees for late bookings. We understand that there are times where you need to sit for a test and need your results quick.

How to check your IELTS test fee and book your test?

Most New Zealand test centres charge NZD$410 for an IELTS test. So, if you need to sit an IELTS test in Auckland, Wellington or Christchurch the price will be the same. But, if you want to sit your IELTS test in a regional location or in the Pacific, the test fee might be higher. 

If you want to know the exact fee you have to pay for your IELTS test, you can start the registration for your preferred test date and time.

How do you register for your IELTS test and find the test fee? 

  • Find your closest IELTS Test Centre

  • Choose your preferred test date and whether you need Academic or General Training (what’s the difference? ). 

  • Click “Book now” 

  • Complete all the steps in the registration form (don’t worry, you can always cancel your booking) 

  • On the payment page, you will see the test fee for your IELTS test. 

How can I pay for my IELTS test?

There are a few ways to pay for your IELTS test. Every test centre will have different payment options available. Generally you will be able to use the following payment methods available: 

  • Credit card / Debit card

  • PayPal 

  • Alipay 

  • EFTPOS

Tips for booking your IELTS test

  • Book early 

Just like a university exam, an IELTS test requires preparation. Even if you are a native English speaker . If you book your IELTS test early, you can take advantage of a free online preparation course . You get access to this with a special voucher after you book. 

  • Book IELTS on computer

IELTS on computer  is available 3 times a day, 7 days a week. So, more flexibility for you. Also, you get your results much quicker. We’ve got some free computer-delivered IELTS practice tests for you. This way, you know exactly what to expect. 

  • Academic or General Training? 

Did you know that the IELTS General Training  test is the only non-academic test available for migration to New Zealand? So, just to be sure: check with your migration agent, education consultant or workplace to find out which IELTS test you need. Can you do General Training?
